Cash for Clunkers refers to a government program called Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS). Under this program, the government gave incentives to consumers to purchase more fuel-efficient cars. The program had been very popular and helped to revive the auto industry and economy, however funds quick ran out and the program's end date is August 24, 2009 (it began on July 1, 2009).
