This day marked the 50th anniversary since the banning of steam on British Railways metals in August 1968.

 

The returning Pathfinder Tours ’Settle & Carlisle Golden Express I’. Gresley 'A4' 4-6-2 no.60009 ‘Union of South Africa’, with whistle blowing, and assistance provided by EMD Class 66 Co-Co no.66 172 'Paul Mellene' in charge, pass under the occupational bridge at Angerholme on the Settle & Carlisle line, as they head for Crewe. The train would terminate at Bristol.
