Enjoying The Silence

Well past midnight on the pontoon at Balmaha last Sunday

night/Monday morning. With a 6.30 alarm call for work in the morning I really should have been tucked up in bed by this point but the night was too good. The mysterious wooded island of Inchcailloch rears up across the narrows. The bright lights of Ross Priory blaze out on the far, southern shore of Loch Lomond. The bright star right of my torch is Sirius and using that as a guide leads to Orion's belt and the Orion Nebula (M42) just below the belt. Some insomniac geese on an island in the southern loch were honking irritatedly but otherwise all was still. The pontoon was slick with frost so I took my time.
