Brittany, Génie civil | Civil EngineeringStudent 2013 Contest (111)

This summer I worked for a major construction and engineering company called EllisDon. In order to prepare for the 2015 Pan American Games, Toronto is finally building rails that will connect Pearson Airport to Union Station. Toronto is one of the only major cities in the world that doesn't have rail links connecting their downtown to their airport, so the construction of the Union Pearson Express is eagerly anticipated. The section of the rails I worked on is just west of Union Station. This 200 million dollar project involves excavating 2 rail corridors 8m below ground in order to pass under a major road. Trains still have to run through our construction site daily so that makes for a challenging yet exciting job! In this photo, under the guidance of my Project Coordinator, I am learning how to transfer all the important changes that have been made by the designer onto our construction sketches.
