Like the Wolf
The Border Collie has been bred for hundrends of years, with the main criteria being intelligence. The only thing bred out of this breed, from the wolf, was the kill instinct. Below is a link to a picture of a Silver Fox that has been bred soley for tameness. It is uncanny, how much their appearance has been altered and how closely they resemble the Border Collie!

Below is another shot of our dog, Abby, and you can see how affectionate she is...She will put her paws around you and give you a hug...and if you try to let go of her, she will grab tighter! This breed is one of the most loving dogs, I've ever seen!!! My family hated the picture above, because they say she looks mean...but I love it, because I appreciate what a marvel this breed of animal is! If the Border Collie is properly exercised, and learns that the owner is the master....there is not another breed of dog that can compare to them!
My goal is to train her to be my companion, when I go out shooting pictures of wildlife. I am confident that she would protect me with her life, and that is why I want to take her. The problem is, she has been bred to chase other animals. Since she does not have the pack leader instinct, I know that if I exert more authority over her, she will eventually obey me and not her natural inclinations.
