Conceptual Series Wray
When developing my idea for my conceptual series I wanted to pick something that was very different, many times a series is about body image or troubles of an individual, but I wanted a more light hearted series. My series explores the emotions, thought process, and things a photographer will put themselves through in order to capture a photo. A lot of times a picture is seen through the eyes of the camera the photographer is using, but it is rarely seen the actual picture being taken and also what the photographer is thinking while the picture is being taken and that is what my series is based off of.
As I thought of the various things that a photographer feels while taking a picture immediately jumped to the feeling of euphoria which a photographer feels when they know they're taking a good photograph. Also not many people when seeing a picture think of the preparation that goes into a photo and I also wanted to display that. As well as various other things that get overlooked when an image is seen by the public eye. In my first photo I wanted to show what a photographer will put themselves through in order to get a good photograph, in this case the photographer is on a ledge hundred of feet from the ground with the possibility of falling, and yet the photographer is willing to do so to get the "golden" shot. The second photo is to show the various pictures as well as positions a photographer must do to get just one photo. Many viewers will see the final photo, but not realize the photographer took hundreds of photos at different angles and with different settings just to get the desired photo, and I wanted to show this in my second photo. In the third photo there is a photographer taking a macro picture and then floating, and this is to display the feeling a photographer feels when they know they're taking a good photo. The levitation is trying to show the feeling of euphoria which the photographer feels when taking a great picture! The fourth picture I wanted to show all the preparation that goes into a portrait sitting, from the different lighting changes a photographer makes to the small minute changes of all different elements that go into a portrait photo, and a viewer only sees the person getting their picture taken, never the photographers small changes to make the good portrait. In the last photograph I wanted to show what happens during a modeling session where the photograph many times stays in one spot or a small amount of spots and the model is in several different positions and also different facial expressions, and this shows the effort, time, and energy that goes into a modeling session.
