Racing Bike Modification.

Not being as young as I was the last time I set out to ride the Lakes passes saw me scrabbling for the lightest bike I could lay my hands on. My 2010 racing bike has laid dormant for some time now but presented itself as being the best bike for the long ride to the Lake District and back.

In its former and more glorious state as a racing thoroughbred, it had some severe drawbacks making it a less attractive option to the older version of myself whom this bike was not built for.....did I really used to ride the bars so low?

In an effort to make the bike better suited to the needs of a near 50 year old man, I made one or two changes to help me get through the long ride.

I produced some aluminium spacers for the headset to both raise the bars and aesthetically divert attention form this sign of weakness and old age. I also replaced the Dura Ace 7700 levers for some more recent Tiagra nine speed shifters, the latter being ergonomically more suited to a higher hand position.

Along with some transmission changes and the removal of SPDR pedals being replaced with SPD models, the bike was better suited to being a long distance lightweight.
