SOUTH WEST PYLON

The pylons serve no actual purpose to the bridge. other than as decoration, for appearance. The south east pylon, the one closest to Circular Quay, has mainly been used as a tourist attraction to provide views over the Sydney region. The other three would be used for storage of equipment relating to maintenance etc. However during WWII all four were used as artillery batteries , I wouldn't have liked to have to haul all that stuff up!

Anyhow, the section you see in this photo, houses the gift shop in the lookout pylon.
