Procida was colonized by ancient Myceneans, ancient Greeks, and by Roman patricians, who used it as a pleasure resort during Roman rule. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the island was devastated by the Vandals, the Goths, and later the Saracens.

 

Procida has been chosen as a film set for numerous films. The most famous are Il Postino and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
