Finchley Road

My photographic activities on Friday 14th May 1976 began on the path that runs alongside the Hampstead Junction Railway between West End Lane and Finchley Road.

Then un-named but now called "Billy Fury Way" the path shares the railway bridge over the Midland Main Line.

The class 37 running light engine is on what was then the Up Goods Line heading towards Belsize Old Tunnel and the chap stepping over the switch diamonds appears to be the Lampman.

Some time after I took this photo preparatory work for Stage 5 of West Hampstead PSB saw the Goods Lines on the right slewed into the Fast Lines to give a remodelled layout with Fast Lines through Belsize Old Tunnel and Slow Lines through Belsize New Tunnel.
