Valley of the Giants. The giants are the Red TIngle Trees - a eucalypt which grows to a great height but has no taproot so the root system is quite shallow. When the trees are attacked by fire or disease the trunks hollow out at the base and the tree becomes unstable. The Tree Top Walk was built to allow visitors to view these magnificent trees from above, thus protecting the delicate roots.

 

There are no steps to climb, just a gentle slope, and the whole walk occupies just 4 square metres.
