Clarity and grammar

Every few yards on both platforms at Grange Park station you see one of these notices. The platform is lower than usual, so it could be dangerous if you step off the train without looking.

But that notice is strangely worded. Passengers 'alight' when they get off the train. Trains and their passengers 'depart' when they leave the station. Perhaps that notice should read: 'Warning. Low platform. Take care when getting off'. That gets the correct message across using two less words. And nobody can be confused. I'm sure British Rail wouldn't have made signs like this.
