On hire to London Transport
Despite buying vast numbers of new buses over the previous 10 years London Transport's engineers seemed incapable of making any of them work. Consequently in September 1975 LT hired in some rugged and simple buses from Southend Transport in the hope that there was a chance the engineers might be able to keep them on the road.
As I recall the union threw a strop and these PD3s didn't last long. Pictured at Thornton Heath on the only route they ran on, the 190.
