BR strike day

In July 1982 there was an all-out strike on British Rail (over the proposed introduction of 'flexible rostering' I seem to recall - i.e. what bus staff have always had).

The NBC made hay whilst the sun shone and Victoria coach station was the scene of frantic activity.

An M&D Atlantean, repainted for use on 'Invictaway' departs for the Medway Towns.

As for the strike - it collapsed. BR decisively won. Rail unions have hardly troubled us since. If I sound a little unsympathetic I am merely extending to ASLEF (and occasionally the NUR) the courtesy they showed me when they regularly (and I mean regularly) used me as a hostage in their disputes throughout the 70's. I've never had to cycle to work since 1982!
