In 1976, before the 'Bed-Pan' electrification and then 'Thameslink', the 'Metropolitan Widened Lines' was a peaks-only backwater served by diesel trains from the Great Northern suburban lines. These were replaced by the direct underground line from Finsbury Park to Moorgate.
