Nemo & Co.

Well....

Since I've been on Flickr....

Over 3 years now...

I've been thinking of or reading Verne and his tales of Nemo.

I read several other books during this adventure...mostly because I didn't want it to end.

When I've told people around me I usually get:

That was required reading..why would you want to...?

Leagues was fascinating...and even if the cataloging by the good professor went on and on sometimes...the narative w/ anything Nemo was spellbinding. What an enigma!

Started a mini collection of kids illustrated leagues books found at thrift stores. Can't seem to get enough Nemo art. (Wowzer! Seen the recent pop-up book?)

Watched the movie for the 1st time in 30 odd years...what was that? Yes it had some fine and amazing parts(Kirk & Squid) but it strayed (Vulcania?) far from the book. (There's talk now of a new movie!!)

Mysterious Island was a totally different tale. I found myself unable to put it down. It really rolled right along story wise. The twist at the end was ruined for me as I looked at an illustrated version before reading...but that twist got me reading it! Not only that... Verne killed off the sweet orangutan w/ one sentence near the end. If Verne was alive I'd write him a letter! Arrgghh!

While reading these two classics I managed to make some amazing trades w/ some even more amazing people here for deep sea diver toys. Also started a flickr group called Deep Dea Diver Depot. Makes for more looking at these hard hat types.

Did you know that my alias here is based on the deep sea diver GI Joe set "8 Ropes Of Danger"?

It's a mix of Verne, Joe & Knitting.

Along the way I researched the various Nemo rides at the Disney Parks. Although I won't be in France or Japan anytime soon those parks are definitely on my list now. Also there are some great sites out there w/ home movies of the original (now closed) Florida ride! If only I had a time machine...but that's another author!
