Wonky Crop, Wacky Review

The following is the rambling of a big kid who now finds himself .....a parent:

Just got done reading this with the chiclet.

The illustrations were great! The story was really hard to seperate from the film.

No musical numbers! It was a bit more fantastical than the movie. The adventures w/ Mary were much wilder than the ones in the movie. Now that being said, Mary was down right cranky and a bit stuck on herself. Julie Andrews was so sweet and nice that it was shocking that this Poppins was so different. Plus not enough of that rascal Dick Van Dykes character in the book. Just one chapter. Then the real kicker? She just up and takes off abruptly when the wind changes. I don't think the children had changed, grown, or learned anything from her visit. They just endurred a cranky magical woman taking care of them. I did like the different trips taken in each chapter but the Poppins character is so deeply burned in my mind that no matter how well written the book was...it felt wrong. (We've read Doctor Doolittle and I did not have this problem)

We have another in the five book series...but I think we'll move on to something different.
