Dod's Old World Swallowtail

Dod's Old World Swallowtail butterfly on the Hay Meadows trail in Kananaskis Country, Alberta. Looks like this guy has not had an easy life.

 

Fun Fact: Pupae are variegated brown or green and may overwinter more than once, possibly to avoid drought conditions in poor years.
