Noisy Pitta - Pitta versicolor. Male 18-20 cm
The Noisy is the largest of the three species found in Australia.
Called the Devil-Devil bird by Aboriginal people, the Noisy Pitta is believed to steal their children by luring them into the rainforest with its jewel like plumage.
It's distribution is from eastern coast of Australia, from the top of Cape York Penisula in Queensland down to the northern regions of Victoria.
The Noisy Pitta has a fondness for eating snails and uses a convenient rock in the rainforest as an anvil for smashing the snail shells.
