Design brief: To produce a mock up of a space relating to 'Objects of Hidden Power'
My chosen object of hidden power was loose threads and I combined this with a feeling of claustrophobia. When creating this work I wanted it to relate to when I first became afraid of small spaces, which was when I was in a cave by the sea while in Wales. For this reason I decided to stretch the thread across the space at eye level, causing the viewer to crouch down to move through/beneath the space, making them feel squashed or the space feel smaller. I had the threads reaching across from one wall on Welsh slate to another to represent the cave and the thread was a blue colour to represent a wave.
Influences : Akiko Ikeuchi, Doh Ho Suh and Yayoi Kusama
Materials : Foam board, cotton threads, pins.
