Loch Lomond Bus Services (T/A FLiXBUS) Mercedes-Benz Tourismo

Scottish expansion for FLiXBUS

FLiXBUS has expanded the routes it runs in Scotland with its first purely Scottish route between Glasgow and Aberdeen running via Stirling, Perth and Dundee. It’s also expanded the routes it runs from Glasgow with a more direct route to London via Preston, Lancaster, Manchester and Birmingham, complimenting its other route via Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds and Sheffield.

Both London routes compete with National Express and Megabus but the Scottish route competes with Scottish Citylink as well as Ember Core (well to Dundee anyway).

All of FLiXBUS’s services from Scotland run with its Scottish partners McGill’s. Operation of the Glasgow - Aberdeen one is shared between McGill’s Greenock operations and it’s sister Xplore Dundee fleet with McGill’s running the London ones on their own. Of course with its acquisition of First Scotland East fleet, that gives it a base to run services from Edinburgh too, should it elect to.

Oddly the services run from its Greenock base run with legal lettering for Loch Lomond Bis Services. This was the company set up for an ill-fated expansion of services in Dumbartonshire following an acquisition of sone services from local independent operator McColl’s. Those services proved somewhat unsuccessful but the operating licence was kept alive. I suspect it allows the coach drivers to be employed on different terms and conditions but that’s purely a theory on my part.

Here is 0638 (BV71HYJ) heading out to Aberdeen carrying a full load.
