Because of scurrilous speculation I thought I had better place the picture of a woman in a boudoir cap, from Hutchinson's Magazine, in context. The couple are clearly married as the man is saying: "I'll choke you first and then go out and kill the swine." In fact the couple have returned from the colonies and she has just had a dark skinned baby (later an aunt reveals that his great-granny, unknown to him, had been an Asian girl). Charming undertones of twenties racism.
