Basilica Bom Jesus Goa

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a Church built during 1594-1605 during Portuguese period. It is also known as Borea Jezuchi Bajilika or Basílica do Bom Jesus. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.The basilica holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. Francis Xavier died in 1552 on Sancian island and the body of the saint was first taken to Portuguese Malacca and later shipped back to Goa after two years. The body of the saint remains as fresh as the day it was buried. The body is shown to the public once in every 10 years and people from all religions and from all parts of the world come here to see the body of the saint. The church is located in Old Goa, which was the capital of Goa during Portuguese rule.
