Team Holland (sponsored by Gazprom International), skippered by Pieter Keijzer, leaving Gotland, at the start of the third leg of the Nord Stream Race 2012, from Gotland to Karlskrona.
The Yacht Club of Saint-Petersburg, Russia, is delighted to announce the creation of a 750 nautical mile, approximately 1400 kilometres, annual Baltic offshore race scheduled to start on October 18, 2012. The race follows the route of the Nord Stream pipeline through the Baltic Sea and crosses the waters of Russia, Finland, Sweden and Germany, bringing together participants from more than 15 European countries.
Backed by the long-term sponsor Gazprom, the Yacht Club of Saint-Petersburg has named it ‘The Nord Stream Race’ in order to underline the long distance, the international character and the high level of complexity and technical challenge of the event.
Vladimir Liubomirov, Commodore, Yacht Club of Saint-Petersburg, commented “We aim to create an internationally renowned long distance sailing race within the Baltic, bringing together the bordering countries to encourage the growth of international sailing in the area and promote a closer integration with the Baltic Sea countries.”
