Malcolm Oliver
1938 Peugeot 402 Darl'mat Special Sport Roadster | CIAS 2024
During the 1920s and 1930s, one of the largest and most prominent Peugeot dealers in the world was in Paris, owned by Emile Darl'mat. His relationship with the company allowed him to commission and sell a custom bodied car based on the contemporary Peugeot 402. To accomplish this, he turned to French Coachbuilder Carrosserie Pourtout, whose portfolio included work for marques such as Bugatti, Delahaye, Panhard, Talbot-Lago, and Lancia. The result was the stunning Darl'mat Special Sport, which was available as a coupe, cabriolet, or a roadster. Designed with performance in mind, the cars saw success in racing, even placing first in class at the 1938 running of 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This beautiful green roadster, one of just 53 built, was displayed at this year's Canadian International Autoshow as part of the Cobble Beach Concours exhibit. Its one of those cars you just have to take in like a painting, I just couldn't stop looking at it!
