Good Mail Day Swap!

I love these SO MUCH. Ahem.

Foods you like, despise, can't eat (allergies, etc.)

I like salty, chocolate and salty-chocolate. The higher the proportion of the butter, the higher the probability that I will like it. I despise nuts or fruit fillings; these things are great by themselves, but not in things.

Coffee vs. tea? Do you have a favorite kind?

Tea. So very much tea. Green tea is dead to me. I drink a lot of chais and love loose leaf tea.

Where do you live? (climate, big city/small town, etc.)

I live in Philadelphia, in a really funky, young neighborhood that borders on a really wealthy neighborhood. Best of both worlds! Philly is in the Mid Atlantic, so our Springs are really unreliable, and it can be 90 and humid one day, then 30 and snowing the next. The only constant is humidity. Humidity is gross.

Favorite yarns / fabrics? Any yarn you want to try but haven't yet?

I knit a lot, and love wools. Semi solids and hand-dyes are great, but I also love workhorses like Cascade and Ella Rae. I don't really knit a lot of very fine lace weight or bulky yarns, but otherwise, I love yarn. I love MadTosh, Sundara, Fiberphile and similar.

I am learning more about fabric. I've been sewing more dresses and shirts, which is really fun. I also do some quilting, but my machine isn't really powerful enough to handle anything beyond the piecing. My favorite fabrics are cheekily British or something that could be from the 40s-60s. In general, I like cottons, but only because that's almost all I've handled.

Crafty pursuits - knit, crochet, spin, sew, quilt, embroider, make friendship bracelets, any of these or others?

Knitting things. Sewing things. Eating things.

Hobbies/pursuits/proclivities/passions (other than the aforementioned crafty ones, obvs)

I love to read and listen to books. I particularly enjoy histories that focus on single subjects (food, royalty, a place) for a long time, like 1491 or Cod. I like things that are weirdly-British, like misprinted china or bizarre pieces of tea services, like elephant shaped creamers.

What do you do in life? (job, career, school, family, etc.)

Ahahaha. I got laid off in December. That might have something to do with the vast craft related output. When I was working, I worked for a museum. I live with my husband, Punsir, and our cat, in a drafty, loft apartment.

What makes you happy?

Making things. Reading things. Learning things. Top 40 radio. Clean laundry. Sunshine. Light breezes. Things that look and smell really clean, and are alphabetized. (OCD? What? Me?)

Into makeup? Is there anything you want to try, for example: Revlon lip butters, lip balm, a particular kind of mascara, brush, etc. (Think inexpensive- we’re obvs not swapping UD Naked Palettes here.) ;)

Holy Shit, makeup. Yes. All of it. I blame Bertha.

I love lipsticks, butters and heavily pigmented balms. I tend to the more saturated end of the lip spectrum (to whit: Nars in Heat Wave, above). I love eye shadow and liners in bright or shimmery colors. I love it. All of it. Makeup, hooray!

Into nail polish? Any favorite brands, favorite colors, or specific shades you covet?

I like polish! Especially now that I'm not so hard on my hands, it's easier for me to paint my own nails. I love all color regardless of brand: Butter London and Wet'n'Wild both hang out in my Polish Bowl (see above about being clean and organized). I have a lot of greens, pinks and purples, but always love corals, reds, and other crisp, preppy colors.

Random favorites -- colors, flavors, scents, books, movies, TV, magazines, genres, time of day, motifs (foxes, bees, squirrels, owls, beavers, mushrooms, bats), etc.

I am very enthusiastic about ALL THE THINGS.

Colors: Byzantine mosaic colors. Dusty, aged colors. If Catharine the Great would have liked it, I will too.

Flavors: salty, sweet, chocolate.

Scents: I like clean, crisp scents, or floral for daily use. I wear perfume every day. I alternate between a Japanese perfume and some Jasmine that I got at the Body Shop. When I'm feeling luxe: Chanel No. 5.

Movies, tv, music, books: I love TV! The Wire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, etc. Carefully wrought, intense dramas have my number. I also love Torchwood and 30 Rock. For books, I read voraciously, but especially histories, biographies, science (both pop and technical) and novels. I get cranky when something gets a lot of press and I haven't read it, so I try to read everything that tops the NYT Best Seller list.

Motifs: Arts and Crafts, William Morris, Liberty of London. Slightly unexpected juxtapositions: I have a carpet from the Middle East that has a tiny helicopter in an otherwise super traditional scene.

Time of day: The part when I don't get sunburned.

Other stuff: I love jewelry and fun, vintage things. Would your 80 year old grandmother deem it "too ostentatious?" That's for me.

Yay!
