M31 The Andromeda Galaxy
The Andromeda Galaxy (also known as Messier 31 or NGC 224) is a spiral galaxy approximately 2.5 million light-years from Earth in the constellation of Andromeda. Containing around 300 billion stars and a with diameter of 150,000 light-years, the Andromeda Galaxy is considerably larger than the Milky Way and is the largest of approximately 20 galaxies in what is known as the Local Group of galaxies.
This image was captured using a QHY8L CCD camera, cooled to -20 degrees C, attached to an Altair Wave 115ED refractor with a 0.79x focal reducer and field flattener. The image comprises 59 x 120s exposures, captured and stacked using Nebulosity 4 then processed using Photoshop CS6.
