M42 The Great Orion Nebula and Running Man
The Great Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, or M42) is a diffuse nebula situated in the Sword of Orion. Located approximately 1,300 light years from Earth, it is estimated to be 24 light years across and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. The Running Man Nebula (also known as NGC 1973/5/7) is a reflection nebula 1/2 degree northeast of the Orion Nebula. This image was captured using a QHY8L camera, attached to an Altair Wave 115ED triplet refractor telescope with 0.79x reducer/flattener. The image consists of 14 x 600s and 15 x 30s exposures, stacked and processed using Nebulosity 4 and Photoshop CS6.
