Chiesa di San Domenico, Alba, Italy

The church of San Domenico in Alba, Italy was built starting in 1292 as a place of prayer reserved for monks from the adjacent convent of Dominican friars. Between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries the church underwent some changes: tombs were built and the side chapels were added. The interior is divided into three naves by four rows of columns: two central cylindrical and two made of half-columns embedded in the walls.

The interior shows works of art from various periods. In particular, all along the walls and vaults are frescoes of the medieval cycle of paintings, dating from the late fourteenth century.

It was in this magnificent church that I enjoyed playing some great chamber music works with wonderful friends and colleagues and also performed as violin soloist for the Alba Music Festival with the Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Larry Vote in "The Lark Ascending" by the wonderful English composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams.
