Whitney Biennial 2017 opens in New York City

New York, NY, 13th March, 2017: Fueled by anger and angst over recent political events and economics, the 2017 Whitney Biennial surveying the current state of American art opens to the public on March 17 and runs through June 11. Showcasing the work of 63 artists, this biennial is the first to be held in the Whitney Museum of American Art’s home in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan. More gallery space has been devoted to this exhibition than was ever before possible since the first Whitney Biennial, which was held in 1932. On the sixth floor of the museum, paintings by Henry Taylor depict the racial tensions between the police and the communities they serve. In the neighboring room are photographs by Vietnamese-born An-My Lê showing modern-day Louisiana and the vestiges of its past that relate to race, class, labor and wealth.
