Intermodal Containers - ISO Type 20TD

This is my Lego version of a basic 20 foot Intermodal Tank Container. There are many variations on the standard container that exist for use with different cargoes including refrigerated container units for perishable goods, tanks in a frame for bulk liquids, open top units for top loading and collapsible versions.

The tank container concept was designed by Bob Fossey, an engineer who worked for Willimas Fairclough in London. In 1964 he made a swap body tank for combined transport by truck and train, but this tank was not yet constructed according to ISO standards. In 1966, the first commercial production occurred and one year later the first tank container according to ISO standards was developed. The first mass-produced tank containers were purchased by Trafpak, a part of Pakhoed.

In the early 70's, the tank container evolved to its current form and the production was also well underway. In the early days, production took place in Europe. From 2010 on, production has mainly been in China and South Africa.

This is just a follow-up providing a variant on my general purpose intermodal container. Again, it's been designed to the same overall frame size as my original container to allow stacking and consistency in loading wagons.

With small variations tanks can be built in about half a dozen de-lego-licious colours . . . the frame, not so much.
