Mill Bay - When Coal Was King

I recently returned to a power station where I once worked. This return was triggered after I received the sad news that the plant had closed. The plant was once a showcase site for whoever the current owner was - meeting and beating targets for availability and efficiency - more recently keeping within environmental constraints.

So I wanted to pay a tribute to the wonderful people who worked at the plant and at the same time reflect on "When Coal Was King". I ended up all over the plant and it was a moving experience - I realised I had never been in a redundant station before - no noise, heat or whisps of steam - none of the usual rather reassuring smells normally associated with one of these giants when in operation.

I spent about four hours there and shot various images - this was always in my mind, however and it was always going to be mono. I wanted to zing it up a little with flares from the lights... f/22 sorted that out coupled with some minor post production tidying up in LR and PS.

Rest in Peace Rugeley "B"...
