January 1996 - Playful Australian Sea-Lion snapped while snorkeling at Carnac Island off North Coogee, Perth, WA

IMAGE INFO

- Very lucky to get this once-in-a-lifetime shot, as this big sea-lion had surprised me by approaching unsighted from the rear..my first view when I sensed a presence & spun around was a wide toothy grin about 1m from my face!! Needless to say my ticker did a few backflips, then I quickly calmed down when I realised the sea-lion was just curious (phew!). After a few seconds of bemused contemplation, the sea-lion rapidly disappeared back into the depths. I managed to quickly raise the camera & snapshot as it brushed past - quite the lasting memory for me!!
