IMAGE INFO
- The viewpoint for this historic & rare image is looking northwards, from where the future Arden Street / Dudley Street intersection would be.
- I have dated the image to Circa 1895, since -
(a) the iconic domed Coogee Palace Aquarium building & adjacent swimming baths have been built & are operating (they were opened in early November, 1887)
(b) the Coogee - Randwick sewer outfall breather vent & building at the northern end of Coogee Beach had been completed (construction finished in 1892).
(c) there is no "LLOYD'S BATHS" sign at Dolphin Point (introduced circa 1900).
- The steam tram "balloon loop" line was opened in 1882. Note the huge numbers of sightseers in the mid-distance, just behind the knoll that the tram tracks curve around - the main Coogee tram station is just out of sight here.
- There are men playing cricket in the mid-foreground (immaculately attired in their Victorian finery) along with two boys, while the unconcerned horses graze the paddock next to the "pitch"!
- The numbers of waders, paddlers & strollers on the water's edge at Coogee Beach is well up compared to earlier 1885 photos.

- Using Microsoft Image Composite Editor I created a single combined image (result = higher resolution).
- Using Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 8.0 I re-aligned the image, cropped to improve framing, repaired damaged sections & unwanted artifacts, improved sharpness, restored contrast & applied adjusted duo-tone curves for better tonal range.
