Elefantporten, Ny Carlsbergvej - København
The Elephant Gate is the most famous building in the Carlsberg site. Here are the visitors coming from Valby via Ny Carlsbergvej, greeted by four giant granite elephants carrying a tower, which in turn ends of a twisted dome. It's on the other side.
Carl Jacobsen (the brewer) had gotten the idea for the tower after seeing Bernini's obelisk elephant at the Minerva Square in Rome and Our Saviour's Church organ facade. The elephant symbolizes faithfulness and strength, and supports Carl Jacobsen's motto "Laboremus pro patria" - Let us work for the fatherland.
