Elephants

View On Black

Loxodonta africana.

As we drove back to camp we saw these young bulls. They were probably coming back from the river and were struggling to get past a marsh area. They were a little nervous with us being there.

It is not as easy to see elephants during the wet season as it is during the dry season. It seems many go to higher ground during the wet season (near the Atakora hills in the south) in order to avoid these marsh areas. But these 4 young bulls were still hanging around Diwouni in the north, as well as a lone bull we saw a few days earlier. Several herds were also seen in the north, not too far away from Tiabiga and Sacrée.
