Open Range_112247 - Explore

A view of the wide open spaces and open range land of the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge in SW Oklahoma. The park is 60,000 acres. This is the main road through the park which is approximately 16 miles long. That doesn't include the various feeder roads which cover other areas including several small lakes and hiking areas. This was during the last week of October with the fall colors just beginning. I loved the beautiful golden and plum colors of the grasses.

Ahead on the left you can see a parking area. There is a rail fence from which you can watch the many prairie dogs in this area. It's called Prairie Dog Town. They are cute and fun to watch. There is another area in a different part of the park that also has hundreds of prairie dogs. At any given time you might see free roaming buffalo or longhorn cattle, sometimes crossing the road.

This photo was taken with my tablet and thus is a jpeg image from the start. The tablet takes great photos. It is heavily processed in LR and PS with a texture added.
