The Marqués de Casa Maury in his Bugatti (1921)
The Marqués de Casa Maury posing in his Bugatti in France, 1921. Later, as a naturalised UK citizen, Pedro José Isidro Manuel Ricardo Monés (Peter de Casa Maury) (1896-1968) was a Wing Commander, intelligence officer and founder of Curzon Cinema. During his early career as a racing driver he drove one of the legendary Bugattis in the 1922 French Grand Prix at Strasbourg. He was placed fifth.
The Marques was the second husband of Freda Dudley Ward (1894 – 1983), English socialite best known for being a married paramour of the Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VIII. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1954.
My renovation and colorization of the original image in the French Gallica Digital Library.
