Schooner Adrienne (1892-1899)
The Library of Congress caption says that this is Adrienne, a black hulled fishing schooner built in 1892 by A.D. Story in Essex, Massachusetts. The photo - here with my colorization - is from the time 1892 - 1899.
A close look at the photo indicates that Adrienne may have been built in the style of a fishing schooner, but a working fishing boat it was not. The crew seems to include two cooks dressed like French chefs, and the other people on board do not look like fishermen either .
The Historic New England site has this information on a schooner Adrienne, which could be the one in the picture:
"Adrienne was a wooden keel schooner designed by G. Lawley & Son and built by G. Lawley & Son in 1883 for Jacob Pfaff, then Commodore of the Boston Yacht Club. In 1897 she was fitted with a new stern. In 1899 she also received a new bow. LOA 71ft. LWL 60.9ft. Beam 18ft."
There is still another Adrienne mentioned in the "History of the Southern Yacht Club": "The schooner Adrienne, the commodore´s flagship, was owned and shipped by him. She was listed in the Yachts and Yachtsmen of America as a 63 foot centerboard schooner, designed and built by Stewart & Binney for W.A. Gordon and Westley E. Lawrence of New Orleans, La. She was launched in 1892 at Essex, Mass."
