A Tatar family in Helsinki (1925)
This 1925 photograph - here processed and partially coloured by me - of the merchant Ymär Abdrahim (1888 - 1975) and his family was shot by Eric Sundström. Abdrahim, who had moved to Helsinki in 1898 from the Nizny Novgorod area in order to assist his uncle, who had a stall in the market, founded a thriving fabric shop in 1911. The original photograph is in the Helsinki city museum collection (N32450).
