Boppard: Pfarrkirche St Severus

The Pfarrkirche St. Severus -- Parish Church of St Severus -- in the town of Boppard (Rheinland-Pfalz / Rhineland-Palatinate, in southwestern Germany), seen from the main square on a clear afternoon in mid-October (2006).

The Marktplatz, or Market Square, is located just back from the waterfront along the Rhine; it is lined with buildings featuring characteristic half-timbering, or Fachwerk. The St-Severus Kirche is a twin-towered Romanesque church of the 12th/13th century.

Boppard is located along the Middle Rhine (Mittelrhein) gorge, where the valley narrows in a particularly scenic manner between Bingen and Koblenz. The Upper Middle Rhine Valley is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
