The ArtExpo is one of the most important annual events for the New York art community. And since New York is considered the epicenter of the contemporary art scene, that makes the ArtExpo once of the most important art events in the world each year. A trade show, ArtExpo is a unique experience for viewers to see works by up to 1,000 individual artists in one place. Even better, the show presents art in a number of mediums by artists at numerous stages in their careers, meaning their truly is something for everyone. It is the world’s largest fine art trade show. For artists, it is a great opportunity to network and get their art seen by a variety of influential figures in the art community. For art collectors and audiences, it is a great experience to view a plethora of innovative contemporary artwork under one roof.
Held at Pier 92, ArtExpo presents an opportunity for artists and art-lovers to access innovative new works. The art showcased is promoted as rare, unique, and innovative- and the promotion works. Gallery owners, traders, framing retailers, art publishers, art buyers, artists, and art lovers all consider the event one of the most important of the year. People travel from all over the country, some from all over the world, to see the unique exhibit.
In the past, ArtExpo has shown work by legendary artists including Andy Warhol, Leroy Neiman, Robert Indian, Robert Rauschenberg, and Peter Max. The show features art of varying mediums including painting, glasswork, ceramic, sculptures, lithographs, drawings, photography, and others. This year, over 1,000 artists will be represented at ArtExpo. The artists featured are largely mid-level career artists, who have a solid fan base but are not the household names they’d like to become yet. ArtExpo can be an important springboard for them to expand their careers. Independent artists can even buy wall space in the ‘Rising Artist Gallery” to give even more exposure to up-and-coming talent. The majority of artwork displayed will be created by contemporary artists. 20,000 people are expected to attend over the 4 days the event will be held. Artists featured in this year’s show include Abstract Expressionist Charlie Hays, New Jersey native Bill Lopa, contemporary figurative artists Vladan Ignatov, self-described “Hyper Realist” Eric Christensen, John Spearks, Gaylord Ho, and many others. Price ranges for the shows artwork range widely, from $100 up to $150,000. That might be the best thing about the show- there is a style, artist, medium, and price for everyone to participate and enjoy, and the diversity is what makes the experience unique.
For those traveling, nearby accommodations include The Hilton Garden Inn, Hotel Gansevoort, The Maritime Hotel, Hotel 309, the GEM Hotel-Chelsea, Hotel Chelsea, Washington Square Hotel, Chelsea Inn, Wyndham Garden Hostel, Manhattan Chelsea West, and the Chelsea Start Hotel.
ArtExpo will run from March 21-24 at Pier 92 in New York City: Pier 92-94; 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10019. This is ArtExpo’s 35th year. General admission is $20.00 and will get you a one-day pass. For additional information, the event’s website is artexponewyork.com.
