National Arboretum Visitor Center

Architect: Albert G. Mumma Jr. for Deigert & Yerkes (1963)

Location: Washington, DC

This building was closed for renovations for over two years. It finally reopened a couple of weeks ago, so I ran over there as soon as I was back in DC.

I was scolded by security for taking this photo, because I had moved an ugly, empty flower pot out of the frame of this shot (not this one, which I thought was fine, but another one that was somewhat ornate in a Home Depot kind of way...). I was told that wasn't allowed. Security guards there didn't kick me out, or even ask me to stop taking photos. In fact, they were polite and courteous, as well. But they seemed offended.

This grill work on the facades of the building serves as a sun screen. It used to also continue inside the building, I believe, but I saw no trace of it in the renovated lobby.
