Westhaver House

House was designed and built by Arts & Architecture Case Study architect David Beverley Thorne in around 1964, for the Western Division President of the US Steel Corporation, Loren J. Westhaven. The house is built entirely of steel, and was erected and welded together by both Thorne and Westhaver themselves.

It's been modified on the exterior considerably since it was originally built, to have a more "traditional" look , with more walls and smaller windows. Original design was clean octogon with louvered window walls.

Isn't that cantilevered deck amazing?

This house is just across the street and a few houses south of the house we rented (which was itself an architectural treasure - a 1959 Vladimir Ossipoff design)
