Tarmac in Bella Bella, Shorts flying boxcar --Coast Guard >Chopper comin in

Bella Coola_gets me out of Vancouver regularily,!! lots of ice fields near Waddintgon. I have a hundred pictures of the Massif at every angle. We also have a huge amounts of water resources wrapped up in ice north of Vancouver

I fly mainly in a Beech 1900, which seems to be a good mountain flyer. Lots of power, and when there is bad turbulence the pilot just pours on the throttle and we power right through. I have flown in all conditions and there has been many times when the whole trip was in dense cloud with the pilot flying by instrument. The attempt is made to land in bad weather by finding a hole in the clouds or to navigate the plane- positioning it over the Fiord near Bella Coola and then fly over the water, proceeding to fly a couple hundred feet above the trees to land in the narrow valley air strip. If the clouds are down to the valley bottom, the pilot aborts and flies to Anahim, finding an easy landing there. Only a couple times I was concerned with flying and it wasnt to do with the mountains. Once we left Vancouver in winter with pouring rain and the upper atmosphere must have been -40 because we were icing up barely out of Vancouver. I couldnt see a thing out the window but I could hear the chunks of ice spraying the side of the plane. We de-iced for about 45 minutes doing a large spiral around Vancouver until the pilot was confidant and then went on our way.

Another time returning from Bella Coola we hit some wingtip vortices from a 747 that passed miles in front of us and it almost put us upside down twice--once from the vortices and once from the pilot over correcting (My Guess) It was a little unnerving but now feel educated on a different kind of turbulence...

The Beech 1900 was my main ride but did fly once from Bella Coola to Bella Bella in a Cessna amphibious .When I flew out of Port Hardy to Bella Bella it was in a Shorts 360 or one time the Saab 340a. All nice planes and glad for the experiences!
