Peripheral Health Units (PHUs) in Kambia District

Malnutrition is a serious problem in Sierra Leone, with the number of underweight children increasing by 24% since 2000, despite the country progressing out of conflict and experiencing economic growth. Development partners are working with the Government to address this problem and emphasis is now turning from treatment of malnutrition to a focus on prevention. Peripheral Health Units (PHUs), such as this one in Kambia District, are the frontline healthcare delivery mechanism at the community level, where nutrition services are provided. At present there are 1,228 PHUs across Sierra Leone.
