Final facial animation.

Here is the final rendered animation which lasts 18 seconds.

I feel the animation came out well although everything can be improved obviously. The facial rig and controllers I created made it very easy to animate this compared to using the blendshape window. I have used the controllers for the face along with the rest of the body/head rig to create a fairly smooth and flowing animation.

 

Things I think are good:

- The appearance of the character came out well with the lighting and setting. The skin shader that is applied reflects the light well and it doesn't look plastic which can occur sometimes. I feel the shadows work well with the animation as they make him look quite menacing at times, especially at the very end.

- The face is very animated and has strong expressions; thanks to the many blend shapes and fairly high-poly face. This was enjoyable to animate and I feel the result looks good as there are smooth, yet strong movements which was necessary to make this particular animation look right. Originally I intended him to be blinking throughout the animation, but as I was doing it I felt that having his eyes open throughout the whole thing helps to set the mood the character is in.

- I think the timing/pacing of the animation feels natural while still complimenting the non-realistic appearance

 

Things that could be better:

- I feel like I should have used the arms/rest of the body a little more to express what he is saying with more power however I don't think it's too bad. I would perhaps do something like slam his fist down on the table at the end when he says "There is no bathroom!" because he is clearly quite angry at this point.

- There are some skinning errors you can see especially at about ~5 seconds around the mouth and at 12-14 seconds when he raises his head up; the neck looks particularly bad as it doesn't deform properly and there is uneven faces that create a strange jagged look.

- Perhaps I could have created and used actual textures for the character, however I have barely any experience in this area because frankly I don't like it and am not very good at it. If anything it would have made the character look bad which I'd rather not do.
