Year of the Cat

One of two Digital Origami Tigers on the forecourt of Customs House, Sydney.

Designed by the multinational architectural practice Laboratory for Visionary Architecture (LAVA) and made from an aluminium wire frame with a stretched Barrisol membrane, the sculptures at 2.5 metres high, 8.5 metres long, each weighing less than 150 kgs. They are illuminated at night by pulsating energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly LED lights.

The project is a continuation of LAVA's exploration into lightweight structures, with the aim of building more with less. It follows the practice's 2008 work, Green Void........[excerpt from exhibition brochure]
