Sadhu
Witness account from ABC producer Brent Clough:
India Bharti was a one-man band with an amazing tangle of equipment: leads, effects boxes, amplified branches. He played a mic’d-up violin and blew into a curly log, possibly one of India's homemade wind instruments and I think used his toes to set off various effects and loops.
Initially I imagined him to be a drug-addled hippy, but it became clear he was a Hindu holy man or sadhu with ash on his face and on his long beard, although he was white.
His music was an entrancing racket which blended strings, programmed beats and layers of effects. It was really a terrific mix of organic and technological and was something like an electro-raga – full of drones and different tonal colours - but also some sub-species of trance or techno. It was shot through with some kind of devotional fervour, packed with weird dynamic sounds whose sources were hard to identify.......[www.abc.net.au]
