A Critical Evaluation of Your Finished Animation 500 Words:
My animation is about a monkey who is trying to get the only banana that is at the top of a very tall tree. From the start he is looking around just walking and he bumps into the tree and sees the banana at the top. He tries to reach it from the ground but it is too high. There is a box in front of him that he notices and he does a forward flip to get on top of it and jumps from the box to get the banana. At the end of the animation he manages to get to the banana and is really happy at the end of it. The monkey starts walking slowly then speeds up. This is good because it shows his excitement of getting the banana and how keen he is to get it. I could have also added some more complicated tasks for the monkey to make the animation more interesting.
There isn’t much facial expressions in the animations but there is a lot of body language which shows how the monkey is feeling. It is easy to tell at the beginning that the monkey is struggling to get to the banana from the floor by him stretching all parts of the body. Once he climbs on the box and gets the banana at the end of the animation, he puts his left arm up in a fist to show he has done it and he is cheering. I feel my animation could have been improved by giving much more facial expressions and to show more of what the monkey was feeling at that certain time.
I could have also added more things in the background to make it look fuller and give it a surrounding and to feel what else was around. I also feel I could have added lighting in the animation to give it an overall good bright scene and to show that it was on a bright sunny day. I feel the textures added on the monkey are really good because it is easy to determine which are the different parts of the body i.e. the lips, nose, eyes, eyebrows, inner ear etc. Furthermore I also feel that the textures of the scenery are well done too such as the tree because it has a palm tree effect look and the colours of the leaves. In addition I also feel that the banana looks really realistic because it has a banana peel texture and the shape is really accurate.
I feel I could have added more exaggeration and anticipation in the animation to show more feeling and character and to make the audience feel more in the animation. I think modelling wise it has been created well but it lacks facial expression and character emotion more than it should. Overall I feel the biggest let down of the animation is the character emotion which is a really big disappointment but the movements have been added well and realistic. The follow through and overlapping has been applied well in this animation.
